Marking the 350th anniversary of the founding of the University of Zagreb, the Croatian National Bank issued on 23 September this year new commemorative gold and silver coins. The design of both issues of the new coins is by sculptor Nikola Vudrag and the issues were minted by the Croatian Monetary Institute. The gold coin's denomination is 500 kuna and that of the silver coin is 150 kuna and they are issued in a maximum quantity of 10,000 pieces each.
The central part of the obverse of the new gold and silver coins features a motif of a book bearing the official logo of the University of Zagreb, which is handed from hand to hand, symbolising the transfer of knowledge, while the central part of the reverse of the coins features a graphically stylised presentation of the central risalit with the staircase of the building of the University of Zagreb and the sculpture by Ivan Meštrović "History of Croats”.
The selling price of the gold coin is HRK 2,093.00 and that of the silver coin is HRK 407.50, VAT included, while the set is available for sale at HRK 2,500.50, VAT on silver coins included.
