The Croatian National Bank issues "Croatian Shepherd Dog" gold and silver collector coins as part of the collector coins series Indigenous Croatia with commemorative motifs featuring a unique indigenous dog breed that has lived in the territory of Slavonia, Srijem and Baranja for centuries. As an extremely intelligent, brave, energetic, agile, sturdy, and loyal working dog, the Croatian Shepherd Dog has been crucial for the development of livestock farming and the survival of rural communities between the Sava, Drava and Danube. Its working abilities and natural characteristics are still evident today in sport, search and cynological activities, confirming that the Croatian Shepherd Dog holds an important place in the natural, cultural and economic heritage of the Republic of Croatia.
The gold coins are issued in the 100, 20 and 10 euro denominations and the silver coins are issued in the 8 and 4 euro denominations. The gold coin denominated at EUR 100 and the silver coin denominated at EUR 8 are issued in colour. The design of the coins is by the sculptor Jelena Mavrić Varga.
The total issued quantity of the EUR 100 gold coloured coin is limited at 50 pieces and that of the EUR 20 gold coin at 300 pieces. The total issued quantity of the EUR 10 gold coin is limited at 1,000 pieces. The total issued quantity of the EUR 8 silver coloured coin is limited at 300 pieces and that of the EUR 4 silver coin at 1,500 pieces.

The coins will be sold by the Croatian Mint. The initial selling price for the 100 euro gold coin is expected to range around EUR 4,729.56, that for the 20 euro gold coin around EUR 618.24 and that for the 10 euro gold coin around EUR 313.38. The selling price of the 8 euro silver coin and the 4 euro silver coin is expected to range around EUR 479.99 and EUR 106.70, VAT included, respectively. The selling price at the time of purchase will depend on gold and silver price movements in the open market.
