Motif on the obverse: The centre of the coin features a square surrounded by a circle, with number "5" inside the square. The name of the monetary unit "KUNA" is inscribed in the Latin script along the left edge of the square and in the Glagolitic script along its right edge. Positioned centrally in the upper semi-circle, above the square, is the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia, whose crest penetrates the strip between the coin edge and the circle surrounding the square in the centre. The lower part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia partially penetrates the central square. The coat of arms of the City of Senj, positioned centrally below the square in the centre, penetrates the square with its upper part, while its lower part covers the circle surrounding the square. The inscription "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA" is laid out in the Latin script in the upper part of the strip between the coin edge and the circle surrounding the square in the centre. The same inscription, but in the Glagolitic script, is displayed in the lower part of the strip between the coin edge and the circle surrounding the square in the centre.
Motif on the reverse: The centre of the coin features the Glagolitic letter "S", surrounded by a circle, the upper part of which transforms into a book - the Missal, marked with a cross. The year "1494" is written below the Missal, on the left side in the Glagolitic script and on the right side in the Arabic numerals. The stem of the Glagolitic letter "S" is depicted as a silhouette of the Nehaj Fortress. The inscription "SENJ" is laid out in two lines in the Latin and Glagolitic scripts within the silhouette. The minting year, "'94", is placed to the right of the word "SENJ" written in the Glagolitic script. Along the base of the circle of the Glagolitic letter "S" there is a stylised motif of waves, symbolising the sea and a strong north-eastern wind (bura) blowing in the Senj area. The inscription "500. OBLJETNICA TISKANJA SENJSKOG GLAGOLJSKOG MISALA" is laid out circularly along the strip between the coin edge and the circle surrounding the square in the centre. Some letters comprising this inscription penetrate the rim of the coin.
