On July 11, 2000 international reserves of the Croatian National Bank exceeded the level of USD 3.5 billion for the first time in the history of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian National Bank, reaching precisely USD 3.581 billion. A significant increase in international reserves occurred in July due to the purchase by the CNB of EURO 77.8 million (USD 73.7 million) on the foreign exchange market on July 7, 2000 and the purchase of Y14 billion (USD 131 million) from the Croatian Finance Ministry on July 11, 2000.
